Homeowner grants not taken at most banks

NANAIMO – The City of Nanaimo is informing residents that most banks are no longer accepting Home Owner Grant applications.

The City of Nanaimo is informing residents that most banks are no longer accepting Home Owner Grant applications for property taxes.

The banks are not required to accept these applications, rather it was an optional service that they offered.

There are several other ways to claim the Home Owner Grant, including by mail, in person at the Service and Resource Centre located at 411 Dunsmuir St., or online at www.nanaimo.ca/goto/hog.

A drop box is available 24/7 at the Service and Resource Centre.

“If you are eligible to claim a Home Owner Grant, please ensure it is claimed by the July 4 due date to avoid penalties,” said   Diane Hiscock, manager of revenue services for the City of Nanaimo.

Post marks are not accepted as date of payment. Grants must be received in the City of Nanaimo office on or before July 4 to avoid penalties.

Property tax payments and Home Owner Grants are due July 4.
