Home invasion sends Nanaimo man to hospital

One man was sent to hospital following a home invasion in Nanaimo Thursday.

One man was sent to hospital following a home invasion in Nanaimo Thursday.

The incident happened shortly before midnight at a residence on the 300 block of Holly Avenue, when a man, 29, answered a knock on his door.

Three men forced their way in, struck the resident on the head and continued assaulting him until he almost lost consciousness.

A witness heard the victim's cries for help and called 911.

The man's assailants fled in a newer model black SUV.

The victim was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for treatment and later released.

Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit members are investigating. Police said the home invasion appears to be a targeted attack.
