Firefighters and paramedics clear wreckage and remove victims following a head-on collision between a southbound KIA Rhondo and Nissan Sentra at the Northfield Road and Island Highway intersection shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday. Two infants and their mother, who was driving the KIA, were taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The male driver of the Nissan, which went over an embankment above Uplands Drive, was unhurt. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
