Russell Berg, left, and Luc Begin put a spin on fundraising at Nanaimo District Secondary School on Thursday at the start of the Learning Alternatives 24-Hour Spinning Challenge to raise $1,000 for this year’s Ride to Conquer Cancer from Vancouver to Seattle June 14-15.

The riders were joined by students from the school’s soccer and rugby teams, cheerleading squad, band and staff who contributed cash and pedal power through the event, which also included midnight pizza, Friday morning pancake breakfast and a hotdog lunch.
