A former VIU student who is now a telescope operator and scientific observer in Hawaii will talk about what he can see from a international summit of astronomy.
Cam Wipper, who grew up in Nanaimo and now works at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on Mauna Kea, will be the feature speaker tomorrow, Aug. 28, in a Royal Astronomical Society of Canada webinar open to the public.
Wipper’s talk, ‘Hawaiian Nights: A Personal Journey from Vancouver Island to Mauna Kea’ will talk about how he came to work at Mauna Kea and the nearly 10 years and counting he has been there.
“This will include a brief history of astronomy in Hawaii, as well as an exploration of how a modern astronomical observatory conducts scientific observations,” notes the society’s website.
