HandyDART service report requested

NANAIMO – Director says parents of children with special needs requested service.

Howard Houle, Regional District of Nanaimo Gabriola Island director, is seeking information from regional district staff regarding HandyDART service at the B.C. Ferries terminal in downtown Nanaimo.

Houle said a number of people on Gabriola who send their children with special needs to programs in Nanaimo could use the service.

“My understanding from when I talked to the people who would need the service, is that they can get their children on the ferry and they can get on the bus, but they don’t have the skills to be able to take a transit bus,” said Houle.

He requested a staff report at a Jan. 26 regional district board meeting.
