Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce seeks new executive

NANAIMO – Susan Allen, president and CEO, is taking a management position at Vancouver Island University

The search is on for a new president and CEO of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce as Susan Allen will resign the position at the end of September to take on a management job at Vancouver Island University.

“Although I have enjoyed every moment working with the members, board and staff, the opportunity to add value to Vancouver Island University and continue to positively impact our community was the deciding factor in accepting this new challenge,” said Allen, in a press release.

Odai Sirri, chamber of commerce chairman, said the organization didn’t expect to be looking for a new executive again after 16 months, but acknowledged the “incredible opportunity for herself and for the university.”

“The time that Susan has led our organization is marked by several successes and has helped the chamber frame some new concepts for its future,” Sirri said.

Dave Witty, VIU provost and vice-president, as well as a chamber board member, said Allen will assist the university to transition the continuing education component into a major revenue generator for the university.

Sirri said the chamber has no specific timeline to replace Allen.
