Golfer gets stolen clubs back

Nanaimo Mounties get their man and golf clubs stolen from a 15-year-old golfer last week.

Police in Nanaimo proved up to par with their investigation into a set of stolen golf clubs, bagging a suspect and the clubs stolen from a 15-year-old golfer.

The clubs were stolen from the Nanaimo Golf Club May 25 when their owner was in the pro shop logging  in his score after a game.

The suspect's image, which police released to the public, was captured on security video as he made off with the clubs.

Tips from people who viewed the image led Nanaimo RCMP Property Crime Unit to the suspect's residence on Highland Boulevard where they arrested a 36-year-old man.

Police only found a few of the missing clubs at the time of the arrest, but after later recovered the remaining clubs and returned them to their owner Friday.

Police also found two other sets of clubs, one believed stolen during a break in at Nanaimo Golf Club May 8.

Police are still trying to find the owner of the remaining set.

The clubs are in a black M5 golf bag, which contains a variety of irons and two putters.

Anyone with information about the clubs is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP Property Crime Unit at 250-754-2345.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Aug. 21 to face recommended charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
