Nanaimo Fire Rescue has turned its investigation into a suspicious garage fire over to police.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 700 block of Stirling Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday.
A fire was lit in material placed against the base of an exterior wall of a detached garage.
The fire had spread up the wall, burning vinyl siding and a small section of the structure's cedar shingle roof. Flames also managed to spread through the wall into a lean-to addition on the garage.
Firefighters snuffed out the blaze. No one was injured and the garage contents were undamaged.
Ennis Mond, fire prevention officer, said in an e-mail to the News Bulletin the owner does not have insurance on his garage or house.
Nanaimo RCMP are continuing the investigation into the fire.
