Nanaimo city council has received $66,000 from the Regional District of Nanaimo to spend on fighting homelessness.

Of that money, which was originally distributed through a Vancouver Island Health Authority grant, $10,000 will go directly to the Nanaimo Working Group on Homelessness for events like Homeless Connect, Thanksgiving dinners, and other direct actions.

The bulk of the cash will be the subject of a request for proposals to provide a direct service to homeless strategies based on one-time funding.

The working group will likely advertise the request for proposals later this month with a decision to be made in early September.
