Dog from Lantzville, who had tens of thousands of fleas upon surrender, now thriving in new home

A Lantzville man whose dog nearly died of a severe flea infestation earlier last summer has been charged with animal cruelty.

According to a B.C. SPCA press release, Lantzville’s Gary Kenneth Bob, the former owner of Rascal, a 14-year-old terrior who had tens of thousands of fleas upon its surrender, has been charged with one count of animal cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Rascal, was taken to the VCA Canada Island Veterinary Hospital after its surrender to receive emergency veterinary treatment, including blood transfusions. It had lost close to 85 per cent of its blood because of the fleas. The dog has since recovered and the B.C. SPCA reports it’s thriving in a new home.
