For the past three months, a pair of Sandhill cranes have been spotted in the agricultural fields near Cedar.

The large, grey birds with red foreheads stand up to more than a metre tall and are occasionally seen on the Island during the fall migration to the southern U.S.

Photographer Mike Yip, who captured the birds on camera, said he has only heard of two Sandhills wintering on Vancouver Island in 12 years.
