Flypast honours Battle of the Atlantic ceremony

NANAIMO – Lantzville Legion hosts ceremony commemorating 70th anniversary of Battle of the Atlantic.

A ceremony commemorating 70 years since the end of the Battle of the Atlantic will be held in Lantzville this weekend.

Military veterans from Royal Canadian Legion branches in Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Parksville will gather at the Lantzville Cenotaph Sunday (May 3) to commemorate the end of the battle that lasted from 1939 to 1945 and the lives, ships and aircraft lost in the conflict waged in the Altlantic Ocean to ferry personnel and materials to supply the war in Europe.

Observances will include two minutes of silence, hymns, prayer, a roll call of the ships, motor torpedo boats and aircraft lost at sea, laying of wreathes and an honour flypast by aircraft from CFB Comox.

The congregation will be seated at 10:50 a.m.
