Two fires set in stairwells at a Nanaimo apartment building have been deemed arson.
The fires were reported at about 10:15 p.m. on Friday and 3:15 p.m. Saturday at the Forest Glen Manor, located at 4451 Wellington Road.
Nanaimo RCMP and Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to the fires, which were both quickly extinguished with no injuries reported from either incident, according to an RCMP press release.
Remnants of burned paper were found at both fire scenes.
“The quick response by tenants, one with a fire extinguisher, the other using a bucket of water, stopped the fire in its tracks and prevented any spread,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in the press release.
Police have few leads other than one tenant reported hearing several young voices in the hallway at about the same time ths fire was detected.
“It is unknown if those people are involved, but investigators would certainly like to speak with them,” O’Brien said.
Anyone with information about either of these fires is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
