Nanaimo's firefighters hope to fill their boots in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy this weekend.

Nanaimo Professional Firefighters Local 905, paid on call firefighters and  firefighters from Lantzville Fire Rescue will be out drumming up donations to this year's Boot Drive for Muscular Dystrophy Friday (May 25) 5:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday (May 26) 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters will be at Nanaimo's three Save-On-Foods locations, Long Thrifty Foods, Real Canadian Superstore, Great Canadian Casino, Port Place Shopping Centre, Canadian Tire, Country Grocer and B.C. Liquor Stores at Longwood Station and Terminal Park.

The boot drive supports Muscular Dystrophy Canada research and patient support programs.

Since 1992, Nanaimo's firefighters have raised more than $300,000 to fight MS.

Fire departments across Canada have raised more than $64 million for Muscular Dystrophy Canada since 1954.
