Fire officials say blaze at Parksville’s historic Rod & Gun pub human-caused, purposely set

UPDATE: RCMP continuing their own investigation

An investigation into an April 18 fire at Parksville’s historic Rod & Gun Bar & Grill concludes the blaze was human-caused.

Firefighters were quickly on the scene at approximately 4 a.m. and managed to get the fire under control “prior to it getting too far into the structure.” The 122-year-old Rod & Gun is currently closed due to COVID-19 concerns and no one was in the building during the time of the fire.

Marc Norris, fire chief at both the Parksville and Qualicum Beach Fire Departments, said the investigation looking into the cause of the fire is now complete.

“The fire was human-caused and appears to be purposely set,” he said. “Fire investigators have evidence which confirms the suspicious nature of the fire.”

Norris said the RCMP are now investigating further.
