Nanaimo has not had any wildfires to speak of this summer, but Coastal Fire Centre staff are urging people to be extra cautious due to tinder dry conditions on southeast Vancouver Island.
Donna MacPherson, Coastal Fire Centre information officer, said Friday the fire danger covering the area from Nanaimo to Victoria extending inland to about half way across the Island is rated as extreme, and the rest of the Island is under a high fire danger rating.
Even though temperatures have remained cooler over the past week, there has not been enough rain to lower the risk of wildfire outbreaks and MacPherson is urging people to be extra careful with fire.
