Residents are about to pay more for taking extra garbage to the curb.
The City of Nanaimo has announced it will increase the fee for an extra garbage bag by a dollar on Jan. 1.
It’s the first time the rate has changed since 1993.
People are able to purchase garbage tags when trash spills over the one-container limit for a maximum two extra bags on collection day. The tags will now cost $3.
People can still use the old orange tags they have at home and retailers can continue to sell them at $2 until they run out.
