Nanaimo home builders constructing energy efficient homes could be eligible for up to $15,000 in rebates, says the City of Nanaimo.

According to a press release, the rebates, via Clean B.C.’s Better Homes New Construction program, is open to construction companies building “Part 9 single-family detached homes, laneway homes, duplexes, triplexes or townhomes.”

Companies can receive rebates for building homes with electric heat pumps or building that adheres to higher levels of the B.C. Energy Step Code, utilizing electric space and water heating equipment, the press release said.

All building permits issued on, or, after April 1, 2020 are eligible, said the press release, and rebates can be applied to projects currently adhering to city Energy Step Code regulations.

“Additional add-ons are available for those who work with an energy advisor and for homes with no fossil fuel usage at all,” the press release said.

To apply for city “top-up rebates” or other grants related to energy efficiency, go to Better Homes B.C.’s website.
