Election 2014: Mamoser and Nicholas to represent Gabriola on Islands Trust

NANAIMO – Melanie Mamoser and Heather Nicholas will represent Gabriola for the next four years as trustees for the Islands Trust.

Melanie Mamoser and Heather Nicholas will represent Gabriola Island for the next four years on the Islands Trust.

Mamoser, an environmental protection officer, and Nicholas, an editor and manager with New Society Publishers, received 1,056 and 925 votes respectively in Saturday’s B.C. municipal election.

The two defeated Chris Bowers, former editor and publisher of The Flying Shingle newspaper, and Peter Phillips, a former Islands Trust bylaw enforcement officer. Bowers garnered 622 votes while Phillips saw 345.

The Islands Trust is an organization of local governments governing islands in the Salish Sea, of which Gabriola Island is a part.
