No injuries though both vehicles towed Thursday morning near Wembley Mall

A Smart Car and a Toyota RAV4 that collided on Highway 19A stopped short of hitting a traffic pole in front of Wembley Mall in Parksville on Thursday morning.

The two cars were seen pushed against each other and up on the curb in front of the pole at the entrance to the Wembley Mall area at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8 before a tow truck pulled them apart.

Police and an ambulance were on scene, though there were no injuries, said Cpl. Jesse Foreman with the Oceanside RCMP. Both the vehicles were towed with significant damage, he said.

“Both the drivers were locals, and one (pointed north on Highway 19A) was taking a left to go into the Wembley Mall and cut in front of the other person (who was going south on Highway 19A), and both of them mention that they had a green light,” said Foreman.

“But that, as we know, is impossible, so we might not actually ever find out what actually happened, but it has been transferred over to ICBC.”

Foreman said he did not know which of the two vehicles made the left turn.

The crash left the right lane of the highway going south blocked at the scene, though there was no traffic congestion.
