Drivers hurt in crash on the highway in south Nanaimo

Emergency crews called to Trans-Canada Highway and Cranberry Road on Friday afternoon

Both drivers involved in a highway crash in Nanaimo this afternoon have been taken to hospital.

Emergency crews were called out just before 12:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, to a collision between a car and a sport-utility vehicle at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Cranberry Road in Chase River.

Both drivers were transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with unknown injuries.

Crews said it appeared the SUV was turning onto Cranberry when the collision occurred.

Southbound traffic is moving slowly and is backed up.

According to ICBC data, there were 13 crashes at the Cranberry Road intersection in 2019 and 83 during the five-year period from 2015-2019.
