A 34-year-old Nanaimo man was arrested for impaired driving following a hit-and-run motor vehicle incident Monday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m., June 7, on Nanaimo Parkway, just north of the Mostar Road intersection.

RCMP, Nanaimo Fire Rescue and and B.C. Ambulance Service responded to the scene where they found a Toyota Corolla with significant rear end damage.

The driver of the Corolla, an 18-year-old woman, was transported to the Nanaimo hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Her 19-year-old male passenger was not injured.

According a Nanaimo RCMP press release, the driver of the Corolla was proceeding northbound when her vehicle was struck from behind by a Ford Ranger pickup. From several witness accounts, it appeared that the driver of the pickup, was attempting to cut in behind the Corolla when it collided with the rear end of the car and caused it to spin out of control. The Corolla was destroyed and later towed from the scene.

The investigation led police to a home in Lantzville where officers found suspect driver and his vehicle. The driver was arrested for impaired driving after failing two breath tests and was also issued with a 90-day driving prohibition. His vehicle was seized for a 30-day impoundment as well.

The suspect driver did not sustain any injuries. His vehicle had minor front end damage.
