Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the most famous Halloween personality of them all?
If we’re talking ages ago, the answers could include Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman.
More recently, it would be Jason, Freddy Krueger and Chucky.
But in 2020, in B.C., there’s only one answer. Dr. Bonnie Henry.
All the horror creatures of the past have given way to a kinder, gentler image in the scary year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Henry’s message of ‘Be Calm, Be Kind, Be Safe’ is especially resonating now as traditional Halloween activities have been curtailed due to rising cases of the virus.

Thus, it’s no surprise the provincial health officer’s caricature was found among the entries in the annual pumpkin decorating contest at the Chemainus Health Care Centre.
Darlene MacDonald of Ladysmith, a nurse in the centre’s long-term care, put her magic touch to the Bonnie Henry decoration.
”I decided to do Dr. Bonnie Henry’s art form to thank her and her team for everything she does for British Columbians,” noted MacDonald. “I am also the COVID-19 resource coach for CHCC. Most Island Health LTC and assisted living facilities have coaches who provide guidance and education to staff, residents and families. Our goal is to keep everyone healthy and safe.”
