Downtown Nanaimo property owners take advantage of grant offering

NANAIMO – Facade grants help boost downtown revitalization.

Four more property owners have received a share of more than $24,000 from the Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Asssociation’s Façade Grant Program.

Grants were given to St. Paul’s Anglican Church at 100 Chapel St.; Real Estate Webmasters at 223 Commercial St.; ManLee Oriental Food and Gift Market at 385 Terminal Ave.; and James St. Billiards at 77 Victoria Cres.

Grants cover up to 15 per cent of project costs to a maximum of $7,500 and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis while the money lasts.

The Façade Grant Program was redeveloped from the DNBIA Heritage Façade Grant, which gave more than 20 property owners a total of more than $260,000 to leverage more than $2 million in downtown building improvements. The program was designed to improve downtown’s aesthetic appeal and promote economic growth and investment in the downtown core.
