District consults on school boundary changes

A public consultation process on proposed changes to catchment areas for five Nanaimo elementary schools gets underway in November.

A public consultation process on proposed changes to catchment areas for five Nanaimo elementary schools gets underway in November.

The changes would affect about 50 students at Coal Tyee, Pleasant Valley, Forest Park, Quarterway and Chase River elementary schools.

The changes reflect the closure of Mount Benson elementary school, the construction of the Nanaimo Parkway and to support attendance patterns and family choices.

Once the consultation process is complete, the school board will make a decision on any possible changes to take effect next September.

Students currently attending the affected schools, as well as younger siblings not yet attending, would not be required to change schools.
