Development continues on riparian variance policy

Nanaimo city council received an update on its riparian variance policy review Monday.

Concerned that an increase in riparian setback variance requests were being applied for, in December council moved to “explore ways to incent developers to implement environmental stewardship opportunities.”

A stakeholders workshop was held in March with participation from council members, Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability, Development Process Review Committee, and provincial and federal representatives, and staff said it expects to develop specific policies to go before council this fall.
