With former Nanaimo fire chief Karen Fry now heading up Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, Tim Doyle, Nanaimo Fire Rescue deputy chief of administration, is filling in as acting chief.
The city is looking for potential replacements from candidates within Nanaimo Fire Rescue and elsewhere.
“There’s a hiring process that’s closing on Jan. 8 and then they’re going to run the competition and then whomever wins the competition will be the new fire chief,” Doyle said.
Doyle said he did not know how long it might take for the city to select a new chief, but did say he’s excited to fill the position in the interim.
“Everything the chief worked on, I’ve been working by her side since she’s been here, so I’m a strong supporter of her and, likewise, the things that she was doing, so I’m excited to, at least in the interim, try to keep our momentum going and try to keep it going in the right direction,” Doyle said.
