Cyclist injured in Nanaimo hit and run

Nanaimo Mounties searching for vehicle that struck and injured cyclist in crosswalk.

A 47-year-old Nanaimo man was taken to hospital Wednesday with serious leg injuries after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Estevan Road.

The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. when the victim was crossing a on a marked crosswalk near Quadra Avenue.

The vehicle that allegedly hit him, described as a dark colour SUV, was travelling northbound and did not stop. No license plate number was obtained for the vehicle.

The rider was knocked down and suffered serious leg injuries.

He was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for treatment and was released later that night.

Investigators were unable to turn up any witnesses when they canvassed the area of the accident scene.
