Food trucks, artisans and entertainers will be back on the streets this summer in downtown Nanaimo, and organizers want to hear from anyone else who wants to be part of the market.

The Commercial Street Night Market, halted for two years by the COVID-19 pandemic, will re-open this year, and will wake place every Thursday from 5-9 p.m. from June 23 to Sept. 1.

The city closes Commercial Street to vehicles on market nights so that the space can be filled with vendors and visitors.

Kim Smythe, Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce CEO, noted in a press release that organizers are looking into a public transit park and ride, and a bike parking compound will be set up for those who wish to leave their cars at home.

“We’re nearly in a sold-out position for vendors, and with about 10 food trucks we’ll offer plenty of diversity in food choices. We’re also expanding to three entertainment stages and a kids and family zone,” Smythe said.

Interested vendors, food truck operators and entertainers can learn more about reserving a place in the market by visiting http://nanaimochamber.bc.ca/nanaimo-night-market.

“We’ll have three stages operating every Thursday night as well as some weekend entertainment spots to fill at our Corner Concerts. We want to provide as wide a variety of entertainment as possible to appeal to all tastes,” Smythe said.
