UPDATE: B.C. Ferries sources enough crew members, sailings no longer cancelled

Evening ailings from Langdale, Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay reinstated

UPDATE: B.C. Ferries reported it now has proper crew levels and sailings will go ahead as originally scheduled.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED: B.C. Ferries issued several sailing cancellations for this evening due to crew shortages.

According to travel advisory, issued at 3:35 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, the ferry company was unsuccessful in securing the required number of crew members necessary to staff the Queen of Surrey safely.

The vessel will no longer be able to complete its 5:25 p.m. sailing from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay, its 6:35 p.m. sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, or its 8:45 p.m. sailing from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay.

“While our crewing teams are working hard to source replacements for the 10:55 pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, this sailing remains at risk of cancellation if they are unable to do so,” noted the travel advisory.

B.C. Ferries said two 12-person water taxis have been sourced for foot passengers between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay, beginning with the 5:25 p.m. sailing from Langdale.

Customers with bookings on the cancelled sailings will be contacted by B.C. Ferries’ customer service centre to arrange for alternate sailings, or to cancel bookings completely.
