Contest rewards water conservation

NANAIMO – Team Water Smart is asking for residents to nominate water-conserving neighbours.

Water conservation has its rewards.

To keep awareness up about reducing water use during the drought, Team WaterSmart is calling on residents to nominate neighbours they think deserve the nod for water conservation.

From July 13 to Aug. 31, City of Nanaimo will take nominations from residents who think their neighbours are doing a great job of saving water outdoors.

Such activities could include letting lawns go golden, planting drought-tolerant or native plants and reusing water.

The same contest is also taking place within the Regional District of Nanaimo's water service areas.

A winner will be drawn weekly. Prizes include a Parks, Recreation and Environment gift card and a rubber ducky trophy, plus all nominees will receive a yard sign recognizing their efforts to conserve water.

To nominate a neighbour, please submit 100 words or fewer to AskWater@nanaimo.ca on how a neighbour is being water smart. If possible, please also include a photo of the water conservation efforts.

Please send nominations for Regional District of Nanaimo residents outside of Nanaimo to watersmart@rdn.bc.ca.
