The City of Nanaimo wants to know what the public thinks about its draft plan for a continuous waterfront walkway.

The city has mapped out a plan for a walkway that stretches from Departure Bay to Nanaimo River estuary, including a proposed route, design and costs for different sections. The city will reveal the plan at an open house this Thursday (Sept. 28) and Saturday (Sept. 30) to get public feedback.

“The waterfront walkway is one of council’s key projects,” said Mayor Bill McKay in a city press release. “This implementation plan will provide the road map that we need to guide further investment to expand the walkway. Feedback received from these open houses will help to further refine the plan prior to it being presented to council this fall.”

The open house on Thursday is from 2-7 p.m. at Kin Hut, 2730 Departure Bay Road. On Saturday people can see the plan from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Lions Pavilion in Maffeo Sutton Park. Waterfront walkway plan information will be available on the city’s website.
