City offers Island's first e-tax service

Property owners can now be notified of their property tax paper-free with the city's introduction of electronic notices.

Through a program called MyBills, making its debut for 2013, the entire tax notice process, from notice to payment, can be done electronically.

Using a MyCity account, property owners can view their property tax notices posted online in PDF format. Notices are also archived online enabling residents to see their notice history from previous years or download the files from their own computer 24/7.

Nanaimo taxpayers can sign up for a MyCity account by visiting http://mycity.nanaimo.ca to receive property taxes electronically for 2013. Once a MyCity account has been created and activated, property owners must changed their delivery method to e-mail by going to the 'MyBills' tab or follow the instructions at http://www.nanaimo.ca/goto/mycity. The deadline to sign up for the 2013 property tax year is end of day on May 13.

Nanaimo is the first city on Vancouver Island to employ this feature.
