Nanaimo is moving on with city administration. The City of Nanaimo announced Tuesday that Jake Rudolph has been appointed as interim chief administrative officer.

According to a press release, Rudolph has served for almost 13 years as CAO for the City of Pitt Meadows and has also worked with the municipalities of Abbotsford, Maple Ridge and Fredericton, N.B.

“Nanaimo is a tremendous city, and I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to take on this role,” said Rudolph in the press release. “I look forward to working with council and the senior management group on the many diverse and challenging initiatives currently underway.”

Also in the press release, Mayor Bill McKay said he’s pleased Rudolph has accepted employment with the city.

“He comes with many years of experience in very active and growing communities, and is well-respected in B.C. municipal government,” McKay said. “I am sure I speak for all of council when I say that we look forward to completing the laying a strong foundation for the incoming council and believe Mr. Rudolph will serve very well during the transition period.”

The interim CAO will officially start the job July 16 and according to the press release, the term of his assignment is until March 31.

The City of Nanaimo has been without a city manager since Tracy Samra, former CAO, went on leave at the end of January after being arrested for allegedly making threats. The B.C. Prosecution Service is seeking to have Samra bound to conditions of a peace bond and a hearing date has been scheduled for Oct. 5 in Nanaimo. Samra was fired with cause in May.
