Child care pitched for Nanaimo parks

NANAIMO – Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island are interested in child care facilities in local green spaces like Beban Park.

A Nanaimo child-care provider is looking to expand services into city parks. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island is making a pitch to the City of Nanaimo to have purpose-built child-care facilities in public spaces like Beban Park.

According to Ian Kalina, executive director of the boys and girls club, the on-site care service would see city recreational sites utilized, while helping to increase child-care spaces and enrich programs. At Beban Park, for example, the club could offer activities at the pool, forest trails and BMX track.

Discussions will happen during the Beban Park Master Plan process, said the city.
