RCMP Youth Camp is back after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 and campers are encouraged to sign up.

The camp will run July 3-7 in Nanaimo.

“Running, self-defence, law, forensics, marching, team building and many other activities make up this action-packed week,” said reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson. “Previous recruits have commented that their days are full and it really gave them an insight into what law enforcement is all about and what it takes to become a real Mountie.”

The camp is open to Grade 11 and 12 public school students in school districts 68, 69, 70 or 79. The cost for the camp is $400 and all candidates must be able to pass a fitness test, a police information check, and have good high school attendance. Applications must be submitted no later than March 10.

To apply or to inquire about financial assistance with the enrolment fee, candidates can contact school liaison officers or school counsellors.

“If you’re … thinking of a career in law enforcement or as an emergency responder, then this experience is for you,” said Cpl. Jana Rose, whose Nanaimo RCMP Youth Unit is responsible for organizing the five-day event.
