Campfires not allowed in City of Nanaimo parks

NANAIMO – City of Nanaimo is reminding residents that smoking, campfires and barbecues are not allowed in parks.

With the summer season here, the City of Nanaimo is reminding Harbour City residents that smoking, campfires and barbecues are not allowed in its parks.

The city says propane barbecues are permitted in designated locations of picnic shelters at Bowen and Maffeo Sutton parks and on picnic tables at all parks.

“Our parks and trails are not irrigated for the most part, which means fires can easily [be] started especially during the dryer summer months. Please help ensure the enjoyment and safety of Nanaimo's parks for everyone,” said Al Britton, city parks operations manager, in a press release.
