A brush fire in the city's south end shut down one lane of the Nanaimo Parkway earlier this afternoon. Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to reports of a brush fire along the Parkway Trail, near the Nanaimo Parkway, at approximately 1:40 p.m. today. Firefighters were forced to shut down a small section of the Nanaimo Parkway in order to gain access to the flames. “When we arrived at the scene there was approximately 100 to 150 square feet fire,” said Tim Doyle, assistant chief for Nanaimo Fire Rescue. “The firefighters advanced our hose line and they got it under control. They did a great job.”
Doyle said that they are unsure of what started the fire and have not ruled anything out.
