Boomerang Lake wildfire fully contained

NANAIMO – Human-caused wildfire two ridges west of Mount Benson mopped up by Coastal Forest Centre crews.

A 6.5-hectare wildfire that is burning two ridges west of Mount Benson is fully contained, according to the Coastal Fire Centre.

Two officers and three crew members from the provincial body were completing their final mop-up of the Boomerang Lake fire yesterday and preparing to turn the situation over to the landowner, said Donna MacPherson, fire information officer.

The landowner, Island Timberlands, also has personnel and water tenders on site, according to MacPherson.

The blaze was sparked Saturday. With no lightning in the area that day, fire officials believe it was human-caused. The exact cause is under investigation.

MacPherson said the fire centre was considering a campfire ban in the coastal area, despite potential rain on Wednesday. She said to check www.bcwildfire.ca for updates prior to leaving for the long weekend.
