The body of missing boater Daniel Borthwick, 42, from Cowichan Bay, was found on a beach in North Saanich last weekend.

A press release from the RCMP said Borthwick’s body was discovered Saturday, Nov. 25 by someone walking the beach.

“Foul play is not suspected and the B.C. Coroners Service is investigating,” according to the release.

The search for Borthwick began after the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP detachment received a report of an eight-foot zodiac boat washed up in Deep Cove Bay on Nov. 22.

Borthwick was last seen on Nov. 21 in Cowichan Bay taking pictures of seals.

Attempts to locate Borthwick at the time were unsuccessful and it was feared that he may have fallen off his zodiac.

An air and water search was initiated using the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, 442 Air squadron, the Canadian Coast Guard and RCMP West Coast Marine who conducted a thorough search from Cowichan Bay to Deep Cove.
