Body discovered on Sugarloaf Mountain

NANAIMO – Tourists climbing to popular viewpoint make disturbing find.

Two tourists climbing Sugarloaf Mountain above Departure Bay stumbled upon a disturbing sight when they discovered a body on the weekend.

Police said the body of a woman, 23, who appears to have taken her own life, was discovered Saturday at about 8 a.m.

Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said police do not believe foul play was a factor in the death and the investigation was turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.

In consideration of the victim's family, police are not releasing further information.
