Alleged sex offender arrested for tweeting

NANAIMO – Timothy Robert Mooney arrested for breaching release conditions.

Timothy Robert Mooney, 31, of Nanaimo has been arrested for allegedly breaching the terms of his release conditions by accessing a computer.

Police investigated Mooney after receiving information he was allegedly sending tweets from a Twitter account.

The information triggered a search of Mooney's north Nanaimo home Monday, which turned up several electronic devices police seized and will have forensically examined.

Mooney, who is prohibited from possessing or using electronic devices following charges from incidents in late September near Woodgrove Centre when he allegedly exposed himself, was arrested during Monday's search and will remain in custody until his next appearance in Nanaimo provincial court Tuesday (April 28).

Mooney was already scheduled to appear in court July 14 for the charges filed from the alleged indecent exposure in September.
