Access along the Holland Creek Trail in Ladysmith will be restricted over the coming months due to construction of the crossing at Colonia Drive. The town said partial closure is required by the developer starting on Nov. 3, until spring 2022.

“Access to the Holland Creek Trail at Colonia Drive will be blocked during this phase of construction to ensure your safety,” reads a news release from the town. “The public is encouraged to use the Mackie Road entrance to reach the trail and then turn left towards the Ladysmith RCMP detachment. Anyone wishing to hike to Heart Lake is asked to use the Ryan Place Gate.”

Footing design work, including creek environmental work, will take three weeks, the town said. Footing construction will take four weeks; installation of a culvert will take five weeks; backfill and installing a mechanically stabilized earth wall, along with utility work will take six to seven weeks and trail reactivation will take another week. The town said barricades will be placed along the trail to restrict access near the project site.

“We appreciate your cooperation in obeying all posted signage, regardless of whether workers are present,” the town said, adding construction schedules could change at the discretion of the developer.
