A candidate for Lantzville council says he’s got the time and the drive to put everything he’s got into being a councillor.

Calvin Williams is one of 10 candidates running for four seats on District of Lantzville council.

Williams, originally from Redwater, Alta., moved to Lantzville five years ago and is a contractor there after a varied career, much of it as a business owner, in trucking, automotive, oil and gas and other industry in Alberta.

He said the main reason he’s running is that he wants to work for Lantzville, which he said has warmly welcomed him.

“Lantzville has got a lot of potential for growth, and the people are just great there. Really friendly people,” he said in an interview early in the campaign. “So you want to be involved with that kind of environment, with a lot of positive outlook in the future of Lantzville.”

His questionnaire response to the News Bulletin suggested his main priority is following the official community plan and ensuring it respects the voices of members of the tax-paying public.

He said he sees “growth and improvement” for Lantzville and services that enable residents to enjoy a good quality of life, but added that he won’t be frivolous with hard-earned tax dollars.

Williams said he’ll be accessible and if he’s elected, he wants to hear from residents about ways he can work for them.

“I want to work with the community to resolve any problems or issues and to grow the community and make it a happier place for everybody,” he said.

The rookie to politics said he’s “very excited to be able to participate in this [campaign] and hopefully get elected.”
