What your stylist is not telling you about your hair

Rediscover locks you love with the help of Hair and Scalp Analysis

Healthy, beautiful hair starts from the inside, but how do you know if you’re giving your hair all it needs?

Hair and scalp analysis can provide the inside information, says Shaheena Hingah from Prostyles Salon, which opened its doors in downtown Nanaimo last month. While the salon is new, the stylists are not, and collectively offer decades of education and experience to complement today’s technology.

Hair and Scalp Analysis

“The Hair and Scalp Analyzer allows us to see the condition of your hair and scalp more efficiently,” explains salon co-owner and stylist Sujit Aria Naick. “The process helps us to show and educate our guests about their hair and scalp conditions and provides free advice for home maintenance and care.”

Developed in Europe, the scanner analyzes the hair and scalp to help stylists determine any challenges a person is experiencing. Armed with the information, they can create a plan for home maintenance and care, which can include everything from topical treatments to dietary suggestions.

  • Where analysis shows a dry, flaky scalp paired with dry ends on the hair, for example, a proper treatment might be recommended, Sujit says.
  • Where itchiness is a problem, treatment might include avoiding spicy food, which can exacerbate the itchiness.

“We believe in education and sharing that knowledge with our guests,” Sujit says, noting hair and scalp analysis is complimentary for the salon’s clients, and available for a fee for others.

Your best you

Fall and winter can wreak havoc for those susceptible to “frizz” but Prostyles’ Keratin Infusion Treatment reduces frizz and blow-dry time while creating smoother, shinier and more manageable hair for up to 14 weeks when properly maintained.

And just in time for holiday season, Prostyles solutions range from professional Redken colour to hair extensions and up-dos – everything you need to be your best you!

Barbering for men

Not only for women, for men, Prostyles offers a restored vintage barber chair and professional barbering services ranging from beard trims and straight razor shaves to men’s and children’s cuts. You’ll also find Layrite products, including concentrated beard oil, hair cream, pommade, clay and more.

Beauty at the salon

Shaheena, also a trained aesthetician, provides threading and waxing services, and for something extra special, ask about casual or customized henna tattoos – perfect for brides!

“Let us do it together because we really care for your hair.”
