This holiday season, the 2024 ornaments will be gifted to anyone who donates $25 or more.

Join the Nanaimo Hospice Society for a festive day of holiday shopping on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Nanaimo Community Hospice Shoppe.

From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., shoppers can enjoy hot chocolate, festive treats, exclusive deals and more, knowing that every purchase and donation supports essential community services provided by the society.

Giving Tuesday: Shop, save and support

This Giving Tuesday event offers a unique opportunity to finish your holiday shopping while giving back to an invaluable community resource. Alongside special deals and perks for donors, 102.3 The Wave will broadcast live on location from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We’re thrilled to welcome our loyal donors and shoppers to the Hospice Shoppe for this special event,” says Tiffany Lang, Nanaimo Hospice Shoppe General Manager. “It’s a chance to tackle holiday shopping, explore the shop, and learn more about the support we provide to the Nanaimo community.”

Funds raised through donations, events and shop sales go directly to free programs and services offered by the Nanaimo Hospice Society. These include counselling for adults and children, education, advocacy, outreach and palliative care support. For more than 40 years, the society has helped community members through their most challenging times.

“Death and grief are among the hardest experiences we face,” says Bonnie Ross, Acting Executive Director. “Our mission is to provide skilled, compassionate support, education and advocacy for those dealing with advanced illness, dying or bereavement, and ensure our services remain accessible to everyone.”

Ahead of Giving Tuesday, the society is hosting a ‘Gathering to Remember’ on Sunday, Dec. 1, from 2 to 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church. This candlelit event features soothing music and uplifting readings, offering a space for reflection and connection.

Celebrate a Life with the Nanaimo Hospice Society

The Society recognizes that the holiday season can be a difficult time for those grieving the loss of a loved one. The annual Celebrate a Life initiative invites community members to honour a loved one's memory by adding their name to a memorial tree, located at three locations this year – the Nanaimo Hospice Shoppe, Nanaimo Hospice House and on Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15  at the Nanaimo North Town Centre.

Memorial ornaments made by a local Gabriola Island artist are also available to anyone who makes a donation of $25 or more over the holidays, while quantities last.

"Our beautiful 2024, porcelain memorial ornaments are handmade and just as unique as the individuals we remember and miss during the holiday season," Ross adds.
