A ticket to a realm of imagination

This season promises to be like no other, bringing people together to share live theatre that celebrates the tremendous diversity that the world has to offer. The Port Theatre has always endeavoured to bring the world’s culture to Nanaimo, allowing a glimpse into a different way of seeing and permitting a transformation for a time —all you need is a ticket!

There is nothing like live theatre, the feel, the sounds, the physical presence of the actors and the sense of suspense. “In every live performance, notes Andrea Noble, “there is always some unexpected element. Every show is different!”

The Port Theatre’s Spotlight Series usually focuses on bringing in acts from all over the world to showcase the diversity we all value, but this year’s “new normal” has meant a focus on a more local flavour, celebrating the diversity of North America and the many cultural influences that are part of the arts landscape right here.

Diversity begins with culture, but it also extends to styles and genres too, and “the thing that we find is that everybody who comes enjoys it —step outside your comfort zone —you’ll be surprised!” says Andrea Noble, Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator.
