An implant is an implant? Know what you’re getting

Cost differences aren’t the only consideration in dental care

Is there a difference among dentists for the cost of implants? Like many investments, it pays to know what you’re getting for what you’re paying.

“I am asked often if there is a large difference in the fees that dentists charge for dental implants,” says Dr. Robert Wolanski, from Nanaimo’s Lakeside Dental Clinic and the Vancouver Island Implant Centre.

“Unlike many commodities, the prices of dental implant treatment do not vary substantially. On average you may find a price difference of about 10 per cent for implant treatment.”

So where does that price difference come from? With dental implants, what you pay for typically reflects what you get.

“This price difference typically reflects some offices using less-than-premium implants and prosthetic materials,” Dr. Wolanski explains.

With longstanding relationships with suppliers, Dr. Wolanski is able to offer patients average pricing, “using only premium implants with a long, established track record,” he says.

The fact that you’re also working with an established dental practice that has been serving Central Island patients for decades, brings added peace of mind.

“As well, the companies we deal with will be around for many years, which is important if for any reason replacement parts need to be obtained in the future,” he adds. “These are important considerations I’ve learned over my 28 years of placing dental implants.”

Experience matters

Along with quality materials, experience is crucial to patients having a positive outcome from their implants.

“The experience our office has is critically important to allow for the greatest long-term predictability and positive outcome of dental implant treatment,” Dr. Wolanski says.

“We are proud to offer the most experience at average prices on Vancouver Island. And because all of the procedures can be done at one location, including CT scans, implant placement, prosthetics, bone grafting and even intravenous sedation for those patients who are nervous about having the dental work done – we save our patients both time and cost.”
