The Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards honoured elite athletes and teams again this year, and will now look to help out the next generation of high-performance athletes.

The awards committee is now accepting applications for funding through the Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards Athlete Assistance Program. The program provides funding to high-performance athletes who compete provincially, nationally or internationally. The money is meant to support athletes with costs related to training, coaching, and competition expenses including travel, sport medicine and science, uniforms and sport apparel.

To be considered for funding, athletes must maintain a position of good standing with their sport organizations and be prepared to communicate with the awards committee on a periodic basis advising of their training and competition journey. Preference may be given to athletes who contribute to the Nanaimo-Ladysmith community through volunteering, coaching and mentorship.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee from the Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards. The deadline to apply is April 15. For more information, visit http://nanaimosportachievementawards.com.

The Athlete Assistance Program is funded from proceeds of the annual Nanaimo Sport Achievement Award gala, with gratitude to community-minded donors, sponsors and partners.
